About us
Zeno and Hedy started out in Switzerland before emigrating, originally to Canada. Like many of us, a visit Phoenix in the Winter convinced then that the Valley was where they belonged.
Moving here in the mid seventies, Zeno had it in mind to start a landscaping business. A visit to a long-since closed bike shop here convinced him to open Swiss American Bicycles.
Their sons, Pierre and Gary both worked with their parents at the shop and are avid cyclists. Pierre was a member of the BMX World Champion's Team Swiss American. After many years working in the shop, Pierre has moved on to Nascar becoming the head mechanic for Car 99.
Gary came to the shop full-time in 1989, and, since Zeno retired he has managed the shop. (Though you'll still find Zeno hanging around the shop.).
Gary is a member of the Swiss American Racing Team and leads the shops Tuesday and Sunday Group rides.
Swiss American is an actual "mom-and-pop" bike shop. Zeno, Hedy, and Gary are proud of the strong and loyal customer base they have grown and maintained over close to 30 years. They, along with Swiss American's service manager, Nick, look forward to welcoming you.
